YOKEI MIZUNO Nanban Red &Black Line Teapot 水野陽景 YM08

Handmade. Thin body (rather light) and very detailed work and sophisticated shape. No glazing.

Texture is a rough and simple. Whole body has thin and random vertical lines.

Tiny white sand in red clay is make the texture tasteful.

To have such a "textured" surface, it requires high technique. Yokei explains that  he applied random vertical lines with thin pieces of bamboo before forming the teapot shape. When clay was still cylindrical shape on the wheel, he made line decoration.

The gradation color of the body was made in firing in kiln.

Artist of the teapot is Yokei Mizuno, born in 1956, great teapot artist in Tokoname. Elegance and simplicity coexist in his works.

Smooth water flow.
