Shinohara Takashi SUZUYAKI— New Works After Kiln Collapsed in Earthquakes

Shinohara_Takashi

Works by Shinohara Takashi have been completed in his new wood-fired kiln.

In recent years, repeated earthquakes in Suzu caused his kiln to collapse twice. Each time, he rebuilt it from the ground up.

Even after losing his home, he continued traveling from temporary housing to his studio, laying each brick. With deep gratitude for the many people who supported and encouraged him, he persevered—and through that journey, his works were born again.

These new pieces were fired from the end of 2025 to the beginning of January 2026 in his newly buit kiln, marking his first firing in two years and eight months.

Within each work lives his lasting devotion to Suzu, quietly kept alive through hardship, along with a prayer for renewal and hope.

We invite you to learn about the long path toward the revival of Suzu ware and Mr. Shinohara’s vision for its future. We hope you will explore the story below and feel the living breath of the works themselves.
