Takatori Hassen XIII (Sousen) Kakewake Cup Takatori-Yaki SS10

Old Takatori Style

This cup has 2 different glazing applied. The technique of art is called “kake-wake”Literally, 掛 "Kake" means apply (glazing), 分" wake" means separately.
掛分(kakewake) ,this art technique is seen Takatori-yaki often.

The black glaze and milky-white straw ash glaze create a dreamlike world, expressing the quiet natura beauty of wabi-sabi. Where the two glazes meet, they leave traces of movement and silence, forming a landscape that exists only once.

This cup has an asymmetrical shape, with undulating edges that evoke the feeling of a natural landscape.

Hassen (Sousen) expresses the artistry and spirit of the Japanese tea bowl in a small cup. Like a tea bowl used in the tea ceremony, each piece is created in harmony with nature and guided by the spirit of wabi-sabi, where beauty is found in simplicity, imperfection, and the passage of time. Holding this cup invites you into that profound world, turning the act of drinking tea into a moment of quiet contemplation and appreciation of ceramic art.

He is 92 years old this year, Hassen(Sousen) has devoted his life to the pursuit of pottery. This cup embodies the spirit, experience, and quiet wisdom cultivated over a lifetime of dedication to his craft. Hassen(Sousen)
