Takatori Hassen XIII (Takatori Sousen) Kakewake Cup Takatori-Yaki 6F

Simple, natural and warm.

This cup has 2 different glazing applied. The technique of art is called “kake-wake”Literally, 掛 "Kake" means apply (glazing), 分" wake" means separately. 掛分(kakewake) is : 2 different glazing is applied. This art technique is seen Takatori-yaki often.

Milky white clay is straw ash glaze which Hassen made by burning straw.
Brownish glaze is called candy glaze (Ameyu glaze) which shows beautiful shade of brown. The mixture of two glaze show warm tasteful yellowish color. Both glaze are Hassen's blend. Mixture of those two glazes makes third nuance color.

Inside of the cups shows 3 colours, brown, white, yellowish milky brown.

This cup has an asymmetrical shape, with undulating edges that evoke the feeling of a natural landscape. Under the glaze, you can see random, horizontal lines—some thick and some thin—created by the potter's wheel, which enhance its warmth and organic feel. The piece offers much to appreciate, from the clay, form, and glaze to the interplay of two colors, the flowing thickness of the glaze, and the hidden elegance in the finer details . And they are so harmonious.

The clay is a unique blend of Hassen XIII.

Most of the clay is from Koishiwara and Nanakuma in Fukuoka prefecture (whereHassen kiln is located)

Takatori Hassen Kiln started in 17th century, produces Japanese tea ceremony ware as main works.
