Umehara Soukou Red Clay Teapot 宗弘 (Made in Tokoname Japan)
This teapot is hand-carved with deep lines inspired by Hokusai's The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō: Maisaka. The carving captures the unique charm of the Maisaka scene and reflects the qualities that make The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō one of Japan’s most beloved ukiyo-e series.
This teapot was made approx. 40-50 years ago. Artist Sokou was retired and no longer making teapot.
Glow of the teapot is soft and graceful. This is unglazed, the glow is come from polishing the surface of the teapot, that was made of Tokoname Clay.
Smooth texture, it tells quality of the clay.
The lid fits inside the body, creating a unique design.
Soukou was called "Master of Rokuro"
(Rokuro means potter's wheel)
