A piece that features the most beautiful black with nuanced colors of moss green has been chosen. The shell marks make the teapot very attractive and add harmony.
This teapot was fired with shells around it, giving it a unique shell effect. Originally made from reddish-brown clay, the shells turned the teapot black and added a partial shine.
Wood-fired in a kiln, this teapot boasts a very attractive shade of black with the effects of ash (from burned firewood) on the lid, handle, and body. It also has a natural texture. The body showcases a variety of captivating colors and gradations of black and brown; some parts shine while others have a rough texture, each color stemming from different origins.
Every side of the body has its unique appeal. The teapot is thin and light.
Sou Yamada, the grandson of Jozan Yamada III, who was recognized by the Japanese government as an Important Intangible Cultural Property, crafted this teapot. The Yamada family has been producing teapots for five generations, maintaining an authentic style. The lid and handle of this teapot exemplify the Yamada family’s nobility.
