YOKEI MIZUNO Nanban Hidasuki Mogake Seaweed Teapot

Nanban: Textured
Hidasuki: Fire line by rice straw
Mogake: Seaweed pattern

Thin-bodied and light in weight, this teapot boasts exquisite craftsmanship and intricate detailing, showcasing a pretty and sophisticated shape.

Its beautiful pattern, derived from Rice Straw and Seaweed. The Rice Straw (Hidasuki Fire lines) creates bold orange lines, while the Seaweed (Mogake) contributes thin brown patterns and green seaweed effect.

Crafted from Yokei's original blend of Tokoname mountain clay, Tokoname rice field clay, and Shigaraki clay, the body of the teapot is imbued with a nice texture and color.

Yokei's meticulous firing process, undertaken three times in a reduced oxygen atmosphere, results in a unique grayish body with orange marble-like accents, as seen in the accompanying photo.

The harmonious interplay of straw orange and seaweed brown and green against the tasteful body is truly captivating.

Yokei's dedication to perfection extends even to the selection and treatment of the delicate spring seaweed used in his artwork. Aging the seaweed for several years ensures the ideal color for the intricate patterns adorning the teapots, with precise control over salinity being key to achieving the desired effect.

The textured surface of the teapot, known as "Nanban" in Japanese, adds a natural feel, showcasing Yokei's exceptional skill in creating this texture using only his right hand, without the support of his left on the potter's wheel.

The lid fits flawlessly onto the body, providing a sense of perfect alignment with each placement.

Suitable for brewing various types of tea, including Green tea, Oolong tea, White Tea, and Black tea, this teapot is a testament to Yokei Mizuno's mastery as a teapot artist in Tokoname, Japan. His works embody elegance and simplicity, coexisting harmoniously to create timeless pieces of art.

Once again, the teapot's thin and lightweight design evokes a sense of delicacy and refinement, as though it were crafted with utmost care and precision.
