Souseki Red Clay Small Mogake High Body Kyusu Teapot

A distinctive kyusu with a noble presence. Its unusual form makes it appear as though the teapot is resting on a raised pedestal, giving it a particularly refined and prestigious character. In fact, however, the pedestal-like section is an integral part of the teapot’s body, and hot water can be poured all the way down into the base. 

This piece was made approximately 40–50 years ago by an artist born in 1941. Crafted from shudei red clay and decorated with mogake, the distinctive decolation created through the use of seaweed. 

The fine, slender spout and charming button-like lid knob, delicately crafted, give the piece a delightful individuality and character.
