The importance of the Teapot’s Tilting Speed (Japanese Green Tea)

Regarding the speed of tilting the teapot, pouring quickly or slowly isn’t a matter of right or wrong. It depends on the situation, and we adjust it accordingly.

We change it based on factors such as:

  • Adjusting the taste of the tea

  • The shape of the teapot

  • The condition of the tea leaves

The video I shared in instagram is just one example of how this works in practice.

Jinshu teapot can make great teatime☘️

I brewed Nagasaki Sonogi green tea for my landlord. She brought me candies and an orange on the day😋

She was very interested in the Jinshu flat teapot and asked, “Is this a teapot?”

I showed her how to use it. Actually, it is the same as other kyusu teapots, but it offers a completely new experience.

I brewed the tea without closing the lid and let her hold the teapot and pour the tea herself.

Watching the tea leaves open and move with the flow of the water was new for her—beautiful and very interesting to see.

The video shows the result of slowly tilting the teapot—in other words, slow pouring with a thin stream of water.

In this case, the tea leaves do not move much from the bottom of the teapot, and the strainer is not clogged with leaves.
(This logic applies no matter which teapot you use.)

She said she usually doesn't pay attention to the speed of pouring hot water into the teapot or the speed of pouring tea from the teapot into the cup.

She also told me that learning something new is important✨
