Takatori Hassen XIII Matcha Bowl Kakewake Chawan 八仙 HM008
Takatori Hassen XIII Matcha Bowl Kakewake Chawan 八仙 HM008
A well-balanced, elegant, and stable-shaped matcha bowl. Its wide base ensures balance when held and provides stability when placed on table or shelves, exuding a traditional impression. It is neither too light nor too heavy, making it comfortable to hold and practical for whisking matcha.
The interplay of two glazes creates a third, blended color, adding a natural and intriguing design element. The bowl embodies the refined simplicity of wabi-sabi (particularly kirei-sabi, a brighter and more elegant interpretation of wabi-sabi), while showcasing the traditional style of Takatori ware.
The carving of the foot ring (kōdai) is asymmetrical, adding a touch of character, and the clay in areas where the glaze did not cover shows charm of the texture of the clay.
Milky white clay is straw ash glaze which Hassen made by burning straw.
Yellowish glaze is called candy glaze (Ameyu glaze) which shows beautiful shade of brown. The harmony and contrast of the those two glazes is attracting. Both glaze are Hassen's blend.
The clay is a unique blend of Hassen XIII based. Most of the clay is from Koishiwara and Nanakuma in Fukuoka prefecture (where Hassen kiln is located).
