Takatori Hassen XIII (Sousen) Kakewake Cup Takatori-Yaki SS04
This cup has 2 different glazing applied. The technique of art is called “kake-wake”Literally, 掛 "Kake" means apply (glazing), 分" wake" means separately. 掛分(kakewake) is : 2 different glazing is applied. This art technique is seen Takatori-yaki often.
A cup with a calm, balanced presence, created through the traditional kakewake (two-glaze) technique. Elegant in its simplicity, the overlapping glazes create a subtle third hue, adding depth and richness to the surface.
The contrast between the richly applied amber glaze and the softly layered straw-ash glaze, which drifts across the surface like clouds, is especially captivating. Where the glaze thins, the clay body gently shows through, revealing the natural beauty and character of the material.
Its refined, well-proportioned form is complemented by small stones that appear in the clay, adding subtle accents to the surface and enhancing both its visual interest and tactile appeal.
